the best way to select the right anxiety therapist

Anxiety Question:

I'm thinking of getting therapy from one of your recommended anxiety therapists. What is the best way to select the right therapist for me?

Answer:

Since all of our recommended anxiety disorder therapists are experienced at anxiety disorder resolution, any one of them would be a good choice. But if you want to be more specific, you may want to read each therapist’s bio and see which one has had a similar experience to yours. Some of our clients have found it advantageous when working with a therapist who personally experienced a particular symptom or symptom-set, or life experience, because of how closely the therapist could identify with the client’s personal struggle.

For example, if you struggle with dizziness, you may want to see which therapist listed dizziness as one of their symptoms. Then choose that one. Or, if you believe you also struggle with depression, you might also want to see which therapist also is experienced at resolving depression, and then choose that one.

Yes, it is true that our recommended therapists don’t list ALL of their symptoms or struggles, but you can still tell a lot about their experiences by reading their personal story.

If, after reading their bios, however, you are still uncertain which therapist to choose, email us a brief history of your struggles with anxiety disorder, and we would be happy to make a recommendation for you. If you’d rather talk to us about choosing the right therapist, you can either phone us at 1-403-208-0091, or email us your phone number and one of us will phone you. Our office hours are 9 AM to 5 PM MST, Monday through Friday. If you get our message system, leave a message and one of us will call you back at the next opportunity.

The client/therapist relationship is an important ingredient to success. So take your time and choose wisely. Again, if you are in doubt, let us know. We are more than happy to help.

The combination of good self-help information and working with an experienced anxiety disorder therapist, coach, or counselor is the most effective way to address anxiety and its many symptoms. Until the core causes of anxiety are addressed – which we call the underlying factors of anxiety – a struggle with anxiety unwellness can return again and again. Dealing with the underlying factors of anxiety is the best way to address problematic anxiety.
