Hi Jim,

I joined Anxietycentre.com a few years back. I was on and off with viewing the material because my anxiety was not terrible at that time. That all changed in March 2019. 

I went through a very stressful period of my life, and EXTREME anxiety and depression hit me like a tidal wave. I experienced most, if not all, of the symptoms on your website, and I didn't see a way out. 

As bad as my physical symptoms were, my mental symptoms were horrific and constant 24x7. 

I read and studied your material over and over to a point where I became obsessed with it. I also obsessed over the Skype calls and even joined a few, and we talked once or twice.

I realize now that I was very scared of my “condition,” and I was looking for a way out, but it all seemed impossible.

I started to apply your strategies daily and worked towards my recovery.  I also worked with a coach for some time, and that was very helpful and insightful.

I admit I was initially confused with your information about containment. I thought containing meant cutting off all negative/first fear thoughts. But that wasn't it at all. 

I eventually learned to contain the core fears that drove me to my anxiety disorder. However, I allowed and accepted all my irrational thoughts/first fears/ etc., as a product of my hyper-stimulated state. This was the key to my recovery.

Once I stopped adding fuel to the fire and accepted everything else my hyper-stimulated mind decided to throw at me (and let them swirl around in my mind without interference), slowly, and I mean slowly, the thoughts came less and were less intense, 

As this unfolded, I slowly lost the fear of the symptoms and the condition. Once I lost a lot of the fear, I knew I was on the right track. 

Anxiety had no control over me anymore, and that was a liberating feeling. 

So, the key in my mind was to lose the fear of the symptoms and the disorder and just continue to live my life with anxiety playing in the background.

But that isn't always easy and something you can force. It's something that needs to happen naturally over time by accepting and accepting (and more acceptance) and slowly realizing there is nothing to fear. 

I can now say I'm about 95% recovered. 

I just want to say thank you for your website and let others know that if I can recover, they can too. 

It takes plenty of time and patience, and everyone has their own unique journey, but you can come out on the other side and once again enjoy each day of life.

The combination of good self-help information and working with an experienced anxiety disorder therapist is the most effective way to address anxiety disorder and its many symptoms. Until the core causes of anxiety are addressed - the underlying factors that motivate apprehensive behavior - a struggle with anxiety disorder can return again and again. Identifying and successfully addressing anxiety's underlying factors is the best way to overcome problematic anxiety.
