Anxiety Core Fears - 1

Anxiety is not caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Anxiety is caused by thinking fearful thoughts (worry). Those who develop anxiety disorders do so because they worry more than those who don’t develop anxiety disorders.

Anxious personalities worry more because they have learned to be afraid of more things and to higher degrees than those who are less anxious. The objects or subjects of worry are often referred to as “core fears” (those notions that we fear might come true).

For example, many anxious personalities are afraid of uncontrollable panic. Their core fear is having uncontrollable panic (a panic attack they can’t stop). Because panic attacks are often accompanied by distressing feelings and strong sensations, the thought of being trapped in these feelings and sensations endlessly causes fear.

Identifying and successfully addressing your core fears can play an important role in overcoming anxiety disorder. This week we wanted to find out what you are most afraid of. You can let us know here:

Can drinking a lot of water help reduce anxiety symptoms?

Some sources claim that drinking a lot of water can help reduce anxiety symptoms. So we wanted to find out if anyone experienced a reduction in their anxiety symptoms from drinking a lot of water.

In a recent poll we conducted at our website, of those who responded, 67 percent said they tried drinking a lot of water in an attempt to reduce their anxiety symptoms. From this percentage, when asked, “Did drinking a lot of water help to diminish your anxiety symptoms?” respondents answered:

Yes, absolutely: 7%
Yes, it reduced my symptoms a lot: 16%
Yes, it reduced my symptoms somewhat: 17%
Yes, it reduced my symptoms a little: 26%
No, it didn’t reduce my symptoms at all: 33%
No, in fact, drinking a lot of water made my symptoms worse: 1%

A little less than one quarter of respondents said they experienced substantial symptom reduction, while 59% said they experienced no or little benefit from drinking a lot of water.
