Feeling stressed? Go for a drive in the country, to the lake, or to the ocean.

Can’t go for a drive? Even looking at pictures or videos of these environments can reduce stress and make you feel more tranquil.

That’s because tranquil scenes have a positive impact on the brain.

New research, which was published in the journal NeuroImage, finds tranquil environmental scenes containing natural features, such as the sea, cause distinct brain areas to become “connected” with one another whereas man-made environments, such as motorways, disrupt the brain connections.
